Short history
The Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry is one of the oldest and most representative entities of the institute. The investigations in the field of chemistry of coordination compounds expanded substantially after the formation (in 1956) of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Moldovan Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1975, the laboratory was called the Laboratory of Chemistry of Coordination Compounds, headed by acad. Antonie Ablov (during the years 1959-1978).
From 1978 till 2006 the head of the laboratory was acad. Nicolae Garbalau, for a short period (in 2006) the laboratory was guided by corr. mem. Mihail Revenco.
- Synthetic methods, especially template synthesis of the mono-, polynuclear and supramolecular compounds of the transition metals with organic polyfunctional ligands (oximes, carboxylic acids, Schiff bases, organic amines and other);
- Basic research in elucidating physical, chemical, magnetic, catalytic and structural properties of the synthesized compounds, performed using physical methods: X-ray diffraction, NMR, IR and UV-Vis, Mössbauer, spectroscopy, photoluminescence, magnetochemistry, thermogravimetry;
Applied research of coordination compounds and compozitions based on these compounds as stimulators of the vital activity of some microorganisms and algae in the biosynthesis of enzymes, as well as stimulators for raising the productivity and drought resistance of cultivated plants; - Study of coordination processe, including template synthesis, usingpolidentateand„crown” coordinating agents for obtaining coordination compounds of various nuclearity and polymeric materials with programmed properties of biostimulators, catalysts, inhibitors, photo- and thermostable pigments, adsorbent materials and photoluminescent, for agriculture, biology, microbiology, technique, microelectronics and others.
