Short history

The Laboratory of Organic Synthesis was established in 1962 on the initiative of dr. Alexandr Shamshurin. The first researches were oriented towards obtaining preparations for pests control and of several compounds with useful properties.

Renamed in 1976, the Laboratory of Chemistry of Preservatives, during 1972-1982, was headed by dr. habilitate Grigore Junghietu. In 1984 dr. Miron Krimer took the lead of the laboratory, which was then named the Laboratory of Pesticides Chemistry, and in 1991 named again the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis.

  • Various aspects of organic and medicinal chemistry;
  • Obtaining of new catalysts (metal-mediated and metal-free) for asymmetric synthesis, mechanistic investigations of reactions which proceed with high levels of regio- and stereoselectivity;
  • Ionic liquids as green alternatives to solvents and the total synthesis of biologically active products with the use of computer-aided molecular design and structure-activity analysis;
  • Total synthesis of biologically active compounds using computational methods of prognosis of biological activity.
